It is hard to believe that Evan is already a month old! Time is certainly flying by! Evan continues to be a happy and sleepy little baby! We ventured out a little more this week and he sleeps pretty much the whole time we are out and about. On Tuesday afternoon, Evan and I went and picked up Graham from school so that Dean could work a little late. It was the first time I had been to First Baptist since Evan was born. Graham has a new teacher, so I got to meet her, so that was nice. Graham was excited to show Evan to his friends and told them he was sleeping and to "Shhhhhh." He helped me carry the carrier back to the jeep and we were on our way!
On Wednesday, I took Evan to the dentist with me and sat in his carrier and watched at first and then fell asleep. I ran a few more errands and then we headed home. Evan is a good little sidekick to have to run around with! Graham had apparently had some signs of a stomach bug on Wednesday afternoon, so he had to stay home from school on Thursday. Dean had one day of vacation left to take by the end of February, so he stayed home with us. Graham was fine all day, so not sure what was going on with him on Wednesday. We headed to Rachel's on Thursday evening for Dean and Graham to get haircuts. Graham was again excited for everyone at the shop to meet Evan and enjoyed getting his hair cut as always. Afterwards, we went to IHOP, which Graham always enjoys and Evan, well, he slept through it!
On Friday, mama and daddy picked up Graham from school after nap again and stayed with us Friday night. We had a fun visit and Graham (and Pawpaw) were wore out by the end of the night! They headed home on Saturday morning and we just had a lazy day around the house, which was nice. On Sunday, Dean headed to church and Julie and Carson came to meet Evan. Graham was excited to have Carson to play with him and in typical style - Evan slept through most of the whole visit!
Evan weighed in at 10 pounds and 1 ounce on Sunday! His formula certainly seems to be agreeing with him and he is steadily gaining. He goes to the doc on Monday morning for his one month appointment, so it will be fun to see his length as well. He is starting to outgrew his newborn outfits and move in to the 0-3 month clothes and has made the switch to size one diapers too.
We are continuing to get settled in with our new family of four. This was the first week that Dean and Graham went to work and school all five days and Evan and I got in to a bit of a routine at home. Since he did so well with the bottle on Sunday evening, we decided to go ahead and start giving him bottles full time on Monday and he made the switch just fine. Initially, they were all breastmilk, but by the end of the week, we started mixing in formula and he didnt miss a beat, so that was great! He settled in to a routine of sleeping for pretty long stretches after his bottles and then is getting up about one time during the night. When he is awake, he is all bright eyed and so alert and looking all around at everything. And,since he is asleep more than he is awake, Graham gets excited when he sees his eyes are open and loudly proclaims - "He is awake, he is awake!" It is really cute.
On Wednesday afternoon, Tammy picked up Graham after nap and brought him home and then hung out with us the rest of the evening. Dean returned to church for the first time since Evan arrived for Ash Wednesday service and choir practice. Evan slept pretty much the entire visit on Tammy's lap and it reminds me so much of when Graham was this age and had visitors!
On Thursday, Evan and I headed out to run some errands. I fed him right before we left the house and sure enough, he fell asleep in the car and slept the whole time we were out and awhile after we got home. It is just like Graham all over again, totally blows my mind!!!! It was so nice to be out and about!
On Friday, Dean needed to work really late to catch up, Mama and daddy picked up Graham at school after nap and they spent the evening and night with us. Mama fixed a yummy meal for us and we had a good visit. They went home early Saturday morning and then Laurie and Barry from work came over Saturday afternoon. Again, Graham loves having all the visitors and enjoys showing them Evan!
Evan is weighing in at 9 pounds and 6 ounces, so he is continuing to steadily gain. We go to the doc in a week for his one month check up, hard to believe how fast time is going by!!! When I catch pockets of time that he is awake, I have photo shoots with him. He is getting better about clothes changes, at first he would fuss and carry on, but he has settled down now. We will have his big one month photo shoot this week and maybe he will fit in to some of his 0 -3 month clothes for that, so far, he is still in newborn clothes and diapers!
Graham continues to be a great little helper, with bringing us things for Evan - diapers, blankets, paci, etc. And, then on Friday night, he helped mama give Evan a bath. Evan didnt protest near as much this time and Graham loved helping to bathe him! See pic below!
This past week was a week of visitors! We kicked off the week on Monday with a visit from my parents and Cousin Lillian. Dean went back to work and Graham stayed home with me and Evan. They spent all day with us and it was neat having all three grandkids together! It was a bit chaotic at times, but lots of fun! On Tuesday, we had another snowy day and so Dean and Graham were home with us again, so that was nice, although we are all quite sick of the snow!!!
On Wednesday, Dean and Graham headed back to work and school and Evan and I had a little adventure as the power was out a big part of the day! It came back on just before dark right after Dean and Graham got home, so we never really got cold so that was good. Dean brought dinner home and Graham thought it was neat that we had a picnic on the coffee table in front of the gas logs! Although he was a bit concerned about the TV not working!
On Thursday, Dean and Graham stayed home again and Michelle came to meet Evan. We had a nice visit, although Evan slept on her lap almost the entire time and didn't really want to wake up and be the host! She still enjoyed him though! Then, finally on Friday, Dean and Graham went back to school and Graham had his Valentine's day party. He took in his Handy Manny valentines and brought home all kinds of neat valentines and treats and told us about his party!
On Saturday, Brad, Kelly, Grey and Reed came to meet Evan. Of course, Graham was very excited that his friends were going to come and play with him. But, he also seems to understand that all the visitors are coming for Evan. As they were leaving, Graham said - Thank you for coming to meet Evan! I guess he has heard us say that a few times! He enjoys showing Evan off and loving on him and kissing and loves being in pics with him, so that has been lots of fun!
Sunday was Valentine's Day and we decided to get out and about for a little bit, so we loaded up the boys and ventured out for the afternoon. Evan was asleep almost as soon as I put him in his carseat and slept the entire time we were gone and then some after we got back! He seems to be following in Graham's footsteps on that one! Graham ended up falling asleep as we made our last stop and also slept all the way home and then some. We had gotten takeout for our Valentine's dinner and when we got home, we had a nice romantic candle light dinner while both boys slept!!! Pretty wild!!!
Evan has been steadily gaining weight and is back to his birthweight of 8 pounds and 7 ounces and that is with me just nursing him. We decided it is time to start trying him on the bottle and start making a gradual transition over, so Dean gave him his first bottle of breastmilk on Sunday evening and he gulped it down like a champ. We also gave him a pacifer for the first time on Saturday and he really took to it! So, that was good on both accounts! Just for comparison, Graham is weighing in around 33ish pounds, so quite the difference to go from holding one of them to the other!!!!
And of course, we had to have Evan's first holiday photo shoot. I was really hoping for a shot of them together and Graham was more cooperative than he had been in ages......but it is just hard to get Evan positioned right, so I just gave up and went with two pics!!!!
Happy Valentine's Day!
We settled in to a little bit of a routine this week, although our schedules are still all over the place a bit. Dean and Graham went to work and school on Monday. Graham was excited to go back to school and even wanted to take Evan to meet his friends! We told him he was too little right now and he was okay with that. Evan and I headed to the doc for a weight check, he was up two ounces to 7 pounds and 14 ounces and everything else looked great. She said she would see us at his one month appointment. Evan slept pretty much the whole way there in his carseat, was awake at the doc office and then slept the whole way home including a stop at Walmart. Hopefully, this is an early indication that he is gonna be a good car rider like Graham!
Dean was home the rest of the week so that was nice. On Wednesday, his parents came to see us and brought lunch and goodies, so that was nice. Evan slept through a lot of the visit but it was still a nice time. Graham enjoyed the visit as well and we took lots of pics. Graham loves being in pics with Evan, so it has re-sparked his cooperativeness for pictures, which is great! He wants to hold Evan in the pics, so that takes a bit of work to position them while Evan is still so fragile.
On Thursday, Dean took Graham in to school for a half day while he went to the allergy doctor and Evan and I stayed home. Then, when Dean and Graham got home, Graham, Evan and I headed to my office to see the Monster Trucks on display. Graham was very excited to see them and again Evan slept in the car the whole way there and then Tammy sat with him while Graham and I checked out the trucks and then Evan slept all the way back home! It was a fun little outing!
On Friday, yet another big snowstorm hit and kept us home and kept visitors away! We are all tired of the snow and Graham isn't even interested in going out and playing in it which is fine by us! He likes to look at it out the window, but that is about it! Graham enjoyed lots of playtime at home all these days at home and is very very helpful with Evan! He is great about bringing us diapers and blankets and such and doesn't really ever get jealous of Evan. He seems to understand that one or the other of us has to have Evan and he knows to go to the other one or asks us to switch. Evan weighed in on our scales at 8 pounds and 4 ounces on Sunday, so nursing seemed to be agreeing with him and he is steadily gaining weight! So hard to believe he is already two weeks old!
Graham and Dean will be home a couple more days this week when we have some visitors and then by the next week, we will probably settle in to our routine of Dean and Graham going to work and school every day and Evan and I staying at home, at least until April 19th when Evan starts at daycare and I go back to work! I confirmed his spot last week!
